The starting point for The boundary object is a specific physical act in the relationship between humans and domesticated animals: the human touching the animal body, petting it, and the animal being touch. We share this close relationship with our cats and dogs, touching bodies as a way of bonding and an act of caring and appreciation (often love). The boundary object relates to this act, highlighting another relation, namely the distant but still so attached relationship between humans and animals in agriculture.
